I'm really gonna have to watch these movies.
Are these movies related at all to make this a trilogy or is it just 3 movies put together as a trilogy?

Plot-wise, there is no relation whatsoever. There are no recurring characters or references to previous films.
They're considered a trilogy because they were all made by the same company, with the same producers, and they're all ninja-themed action movies that feature Sho Kosugi (though he plays a different character in each of the films). The second and third films in the trilogy also shared the same director.

I agree, I need to see these classics. They'll probably be terrible to watch, the inviting a cop stalker who failed to stand up for you to your home and trying to dance away possession are but a few examples. Mind you, modern films aren't much better story-wise but they have more expensive special effects..
Great review, I love your writing style!
