Wow, Eddie's quite the speedrunner!  Also, that ending where the girl is offering burgers to the heroes must be based off the ending of Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja, because in that game the President offers the heroes a burger for rescuing him.   Hmm, I bet you know which person most people would rather have a burger with, if you know what I mean.   ;)

Yeah, it's absolutely based off the Bad Dudes ending.

Man, I love that "I'm bad!" sound bite. Also, the "Got it!" sound bite that the Bad Dudes say when they grab an item has been a regular part of my lexicon for many years.

I never like sitting over the chasm between two pillows on a sofa. It feels uncomfortable..

Yeah! What the fuck, Jessica?!

Actually, I think they're doing it to give themselves a 'we're totally not gay' buffer. On the other hand, it'd look weird if they were sitting on complete opposite ends of the couch.

Hey Adam, whenever I click on the image for issue 4 page 14 from this section I just get sent to some page that says, "This site can't be reached."  However, when I click on the image on the home page it works just fine.

Yeah, I made a dumb error. Fixed! Thanks for the heads up.

Trance and Corey mistaken for Eddie!? How many times must those ninjas screw up???

To give them a little bit of credit, Corey left the room to go to the bathroom by the time the ninjas were peeping in the window, so it's only Trance they mistook for Eddie. And besides, all those non-ninjas look the same.

There wasn’t room on the page to actually show it, (and the pixel art would’ve made the page take too long) but the game Trance and Corey are playing in Eddie’s room is Downtown Beatdown, which is totally the best two-player co-op game for the Tendocom Amusement Device (TAD for short).

In the final panel, the door behind Corey leads to the small upstairs bathroom that’s right outside Eddie’s room. Other than those two rooms (and a closet connected to Eddie’s room), that level of the house is an unfinished attic that’s used for storage.

I considered having Corey still be on the toilet when he hears the commotion go down, but that’s venturing a bit too close to toilet humor territory for our tastes. Besides, I like how it makes Corey seem more cowardly, the way he’s standing right outside the bedroom door, but is too afraid to open it and see what’s happening to his friend.

Hey guys, I know it's been a while since I've done anything here, so I figured I'd come  in and say hi.  Anyways, it's great to see that the comic  is back in high gear and I look forward to whatever  else it has  in store!

Thanks dude! Great to see you here again.

I was twenty years old, working as a cable man at the time. I went into the main office to get my assignments for the day and ended up leaving a little later than usual because all us cable dudes were watching the news on TV. Then I pretty much went about business as usual, though that day definitely had a bit of a surreal quality to it.

Also, I'm not sure why this topic is locked.

I heard that "eat a burger" is totally a euphemism. Doesn't sound like it's just a hand job..

Whew! Good to know.

Right in the middle of this, who would show up?

A.Ket  and Darwick
B.Demon Hammer's management team
...or....
C.Some other threat....

Or ...
D. No one shows up, and instead the entire rest of the issue is just Eddie hanging out with the popular kids, having a roaring good time at Pizza Wizard.

I made this account a solid three years ago, then never said anything like the proper lurker that I am.

Wow. Well, I'm glad you finally crossed that threshold. It's always a morale boost for us when we get confirmation that people actually read our rad little comic.

Sorry about that! I sat and refreshed the page every few minutes to see if it was a problem on my end. After 10 minutes or so it worked fine so I figured I'd just delete my comment to save you the headache. That did not go as planned.

I assumed it was something like that. No worries, dude.

I like to imagine that's what I look like while gaming...

I love the contrast between that panel, with Satan Ninja Eddie being all cool and collected, and its "sister panel" in Issue 1 Page 4. Those two images really showcase the change from original Eddie to Satan Ninja Eddie.

Also, not sure if this is important or not, but when you're on comic #12 the 'Last' and 'Next' buttons are unclickable.

I seldom get here this early so this might be normal, and just needs updated.

Thanks for the heads up. I just checked it out and the navigation buttons for Issue 4 Page 12 are working fine on my end. This is the first I've heard or something like that happening, so I'll bring it up to our Web Dude. On a related note, I don't know how many of our readers know this, but the comic should be totally navigatable by using the arrow keys on your keyboard.

Also, welcome to the forum, kid! ::cyber high five::

EDIT: Whoa, that's weird. The comment I just replied to is gone.

And we come full circle to where the comic began.

I’m not sure what it says about the SN8X-verse that no one seems to bat an eye at there being a topless chick in a video game. I mean, that totally would’ve blown my balls up when I was a kid. Waaaaay back when Jessica first drew the pixel babe for page three of Issue 1, we had considered having her disheveled hair cover her nipples, but decided it would be a good thing to show some boobs early on in the comic so that readers would get an idea right away as to what kind of comic they were in for (a fucking rad as hell one).

Also, I know Jessica didn’t intend this, but it totally looks to me like the sacrificial babe is offering to give the Dude twins a couple handys as a reward before they go off and get those burgers. I know if I were a Dude Shinobi, I’d be totally insulted that I fought my way through a clan of satan-worshipping ninjas for a lousy handjob reward.

Switching to bi-weekly updates is an option, but we view it as a last resort. Even if all our fans would be totally cool with it, we simply don't want to tell this story at that slow of a pace.

Please avoid switching to bi-weekly updates for as long as possible. Just joined and was shocked to see the title of the thread. Thank God nothing serious.

Yeah, it's kinda tempting to create a bunch of new threads in this section of the forum just to bury this one. Or I suppose I could use my admin powers to alter the title to something a bit less cryptic.

Anyway, welcome to the forum, dude!

Whoa! Jessica just pointed out to me that she forgot to add the pattern to Corey's shirt. She'll have to fix that once I can tear her away from working on a newer page.

In the Netherlands, we celebrate Labour Day by labouring. Enjoy the holiday!  8)

Oh, I'll probably be laboring too. But Jessica will be going camping with a lady friend of hers, which is a totally great setup for a horror film.

Does Trance have the makings to be this comic's version of Tony Stark!?

Yeah, if anyone is the SN8X Tony Stark, I'd have to say it's Trance.

We decided to give Roborexus an updated design since his first appearance back in issue 1. He was originally a throwaway reference/homage to the transformer Grimlock, but since we’ve decided to feature the little robo-dino a bit more prominently, we simplified his design to make him easier to draw and not such an obvious riff off of Grimlock.

But we don’t plan to go back and alter the design in his original appearance. We’ll just say that was a prototype build.

There won't be a page posted next weekend (Labor Day weekend here in the US), but the comic will return with a new page on Saturday, September 8th. And it'll be one of my favorite pages of this issue so far.

How will those two react upon seeing what's under that armor!?

That's assuming they ever have that pleasure...

I just realized that this is the first page that gives any indication of Ket and Darwick's height. They're the only characters on the "About the Characters" page of the site that don't have a height listed. We figured we'd leave it ambiguous so readers could speculate on the possibility us having them turn out to be giants compared to humans (like in the anime Macross), or really small (like in the movie Dollman).

Candi doesn't strike me as a very important character, did you write back stories for every one? Does it help you flesh out the story as a whole?

You're right, Candi isn't an important character. In fact, I wasn't even sure if she'd end up making an appearance in the comic.

I didn't write back stories for every character, but some of the main characters have highly developed backstories (in some cases, to a rather ridiculous extent--Ket's backstory could fill books). Candi grew out of Veronica's backstory, when I decided to give her a best friend before Heather. And yeah, writing backstories absolutely helps flesh out the comic's overall story.

Candi is a character that I detailed back when I was developing the comic’s lore, but I doubt much of her background will ever be revealed within the comic itself, so here it is:

When Veronica first moved to River City in the summer before she started 7th grade, the first friend she made was Candi (full name Candice). Toward the start of their 10th grade year, the two best friends went to see the popular glam metal band Makeüp Skwäd in concert. They ended up going back stage and, uh ... ‘hanging out’ with the band.

Candi, convinced that she and the band’s drummer were, like, totally in love, dropped out of school to follow the band’s tour and live with her drummer-lover in California. Veronica’s vacant best friend slot was swiftly replaced by Heather. Things between Candi and the drummer of Makeüp Skwäd didn’t end up lasting, and she eventually moved back to River City, Michigan. And apparently ended up inadvertently costing Eddie his job.

Now you know!
