Would only a select few know about the "new" Eddie!?

Oh no, everyone in River City High learned about it right after he killed the demon. The students were sent home and the school was shut down (that's why Corey was surprised to see Carmen home from school so early). By this point, pretty much everyone in River City knows due to the extensive news coverage. And since Demon Hammer also saw him despite being way out in California (a fact I probably should have made clear in a caption), we knew that satan ninja Eddie has at least made national news.

Nice to see Veronica finally dressed...!

Heh. Uh, yeah...

Oh, Eddie, so oblivious to Alex's sarcasm. And now we'll finally get to check out the place Eddie got fired from back in Issue 2.

Those of you that saw early preview versions of this and the previous page on Jessica’s Patreon, might notice that we’ve decided to cut out Alex showing Eddie a wounded bat that she’s nursing back to health. We decided that it seemed a little weird for Alex to be like, "Yeah, so I know you're a magical satan ninja who just killed a crazy wolf-demon from hell and all, but anyway, you should totally check out this bat that I'm nursing back to health. Isn't that neat?" The wounded bat also served as foreshadowing to a plot point that we've since decided to drop.

Okay, so I've been up all night, and I totally planned to go to sleep immediately after posting this page and sending out the notifications. But just as I was about to get into bed, I was struck with sudden inspiration and the title of one of Grandma McCarthy's favorite TV shows sprang to mind: Gilded Grannies.

Goddamn I'm a genius.

Okay, now for sleep.

And we finally get to the moment that we referenced in this SN8X desktop wallpaper that Jessica made waaaaay back when we first launched this site in 2014.

It’s a parody of a classic Nintendo Power Glove ad, but you can see that we hadn’t yet decided to have Eddie’s hair change once he enters his satan ninja form.

That reminds of me something that happened when we were at that convention last month. A middle-aged lady walked past our table, glancing at our stuff as she did. After she saw this Power Glove parody poster, I heard her mutter to her husband, “He is too evil.” Then they left, and I was totally amused.

Awesome to see the comic back.

Thanks, Australian Dude. Awesome to see you back.

About Miss Knight, will we be seeing more of her!?!?

Absolutely.

36
Just clicked on it and looks like a work in progress! Hopefully they'll add character bios along with other concepts of the webcomic..! ;) :) :D ;D

Yeah, that'd be awesome. It seems the dude who originally got it started hasn't updated it for a long time. But since anyone can add to it, hopefully some rad fan out there will pick up where he left off.

Now that we’re back from hiatus, I bet some of you dudes are re-reading the comic to refresh your memory. Which makes this a great time to mention that one of our totally awesome fans has started a wiki for Satan Ninja 198X.

There’s not a whole lot there currently, but it looks rad and the structure is in place, it just needs more meat tossed on its bones. I’m actually tempted to add to it myself, but I feel it goes against the spirit of such things for a creator to get involved. Besides, it’s way more fun and rewarding for Jessica and I to see how others describe our comic.

We also have a TV Tropes page that another awesome fan started, but again, there’s plenty of room for that to grow.

Seeing our fans make and contribute to these sorts of things is so goddamn radical, it’s like receiving a jumping high-five to our creative morale. Not only that, but they also help spread the word about our comic. For instance, the more TV Tropes pages that mention Satan Ninja 198X, the more curious clicks we’ll get.

By the way, if you end up contributing a bunch of stuff to the TV Tropes page or the SN8X wiki, you should totally contact us and let us know so we can thank you. Perhaps we’ll even conjure up a little something to send your way.

What’s that? You say you don’t have time to dick around with TV Tropes or a wiki, but you’d still like to help out the comic? Well, first off, you rule for wanting to help. Second, you can help out by spreading the word about the comic. Especially to people who are into retro-’80s stuff or just like totally rad things.

Plus you can always contribute to the comic by supporting Jessica on Patreon. She’s revised her rewards, and now creates a monthly SN8X pin-up based on concepts submitted by and voted on by her patrons. Even contributing a dollar a month is enough to check out her Patreon pinups. She’s also already posted the next few pages of the comic there. She lost some patrons while we were on hiatus due to her health issues, so it’d totally make her day to gain some new ones.

WELCOME BACK! This is amazing!

Thanks! I'm guessing this page gets the ol' aett Babe Alert ringing a bit...

But seriously, after being on hiatus for so long, it's totally fucking rad for us to see you dudes popping back into the forum. We feel lucky to have such dedicated fans.

The demon hammer scene is perfect. My first thought was that they always walk around like this and hang out together but the session break probably fits better.

Oh no, that's totally how they normally dress. To paraphrase Return of the Living Dead, "You think that's some sort of costume? It's a way of life!"

Welcome back from the hiatus, this is exciting!

Hell yeah, Science Dude!

Three questions...

1.Why does Slater want that glove so bad!?

Ninja Commander is the one who really wants the glove. Slater doesn't seem to know much about it, but he's apparently pissed off about what he assumed was one of Ninja Commander's ninja cronies making a big scene at River City High.

However, this begs the question as to what the connection is between mega-rich businessman Michael Slater and a clan of satanic ninjas that secretly dwell in River City's sewers...

2.Does Slater have a bit of a rivalry with the founder of Pizza Wizard?

Hmm, that's quite possible. Is River City big enough for two mega-rich business men that provide for spoiled bullies (Razor and Dean)?

3.Should the band's management take legal action against Eddie???

I think Demon Hammer's management is actually loving the extra exposure this will bring them. They're the kind of band that courts controversy. After all, the more they're "demonized" by the media, the more rebellious teens will desire their albums.

I believe this page is the comic debut of Miss Knight, Michael Slater’s assistant. We also get our first good look at the entire Demon Hammer band, apparently taking a break from working on their new album to watch the news, which of course is totally typical behavior for satanic ‘80s heavy metal bands…

Actually, I originally planned to show Demon Hammer’s manager interrupt their recording session to have them check out the news (the classic “You’re not going to believe this” moment), but I decided to cut that in order to speed things along.

Holy shit it feels good to post a page again.

I love 80s music and still listen to it.

Totally. Several months ago, after Jessica and I thought we might have finally started to run out of rad new '80s music to discover, we ended up going down a YouTube rabbit hole of music videos that introduces us to a whole bunch of (mostly) German '80s electronic pop music.

As for cosplay, how would Jessica look dressed as Sailor Moon!?

Haha, why Sailor Moon?

Jessica's told me she watched a bit of Sailor Moon when she around her early teens, but at the time it didn't appeal to her nearly as much as Dragon Ball Z did. I don't think I've ever watched or read any Sailor Moon.

On a semi-related note, Sailor Moon is off the table for SN8X to reference, since both the manga and the anime debuted in the early '90s.

What else did you see while you were there?

Lots and lots of people dressed as characters we didn't recognize. We're rediculously out of the loop when it comes to anime, as our anime knowledge stops around the year 2000.

Some highlights of the convention:
  • Those who took the time to check out our booth often purchased all three comic issues, which is pretty rad considering it was an anime convention and (Ket aside) our comic isn't exactly anime.
  • We ran into our first SN8X fan "in the wild." A dude was passing our table, did a double-take, then came over and exclaimed, "I love Satan Ninja!" He said he discovered the comic on Reddit and has been checking it periodically ever since.
  • We and and a few others got to hang out with Albert Wesker's voice actor for an hour or so after one of his panels. Very cool and open guy.
  • There might have been more T&A on display than any other convention I've been to, which was nice.

Oh, and this isn't a highlight, but eventually Jessica talked me into not wearing my aviators, as people continuously thought I was cosplaying as that awful rapper Pitbull.

A friend of ours took some pictures and short videos of us at the Anime Midwest convention, so I'll post them in this thread as soon as he shares them with me.

EDIT: Here they are:

Here's a video clip of our simple table setup.

A clip of Jessica pumping iron.

And finally, a clip of me donning shades indoors (which I totally didn't wear so I could stealthily leer at scantily clad cosplay babes).

These were all taken on the last day of the convention, so by this point we were in zombie-mode from three nights in a row of minimal sleep.

It’s been over a month since the last post, so I’m hesitant to say anything, but is everything okay? Hope Jessica is recovering and no other problems have arisen.

Sorry for the extended web blackout period. Jessica's health issues have been a bit of a rollercoaster ride (on one of those shitty old wooden ones that rattle your teeth), but things are looking a lot better lately.

SN8X-things have been happening "behind the scenes" and I should be making a news post to this site within the next week.
