Holy shit, sorry for the extended period of silence. Jessica has been posting updates to her Patreon, but I totally should've been posting occasional updates here as well, because people have begun asking us if the comic is dead.

So for the record: Satan Ninja 198X is totally not dead.

That's because Satan Ninja was eventually transferred to a better hospital.

So what have we been up to these past several months?

Well, for one thing, Jessica and I got engaged, and we’re getting married this August.

I've already sent my congratulations on the Patreon page back in March, but I'll do here as well: Congratulations!  Also I'm wondering if it's going to be a White Wedding?  P.S. I had no idea that the song at two parts to it until recently.

We’re technically still on hiatus, but we wanted to post the cover to Issue 4 so you dudes could see that the comic’s still alive and kicking ass.

I guess you could say that the comic's Alive and Kicking?

Lastly just a few random thoughts on the cover:

It looks like An American Werewolf-In Hell!  Also, it looks like Hell used the same floor pattern as Tron:

Hmm, maybe a little Howard Jones will cheer you guys up.  Anyways, I have to admit that I have been pretty eager to see what Issue 4 has in store.  However, I'm not worried or disappointed because I know that you guys put a lot of time and effort to make sure that Satan Ninja kicks ass.   I plan on sticking around for a long time because I believe in you guys!  So please, take as much time as you need to get ready.  I know you guys will prevail!

Corey lost his chance to knock up some alien babe! ;) :D ;D :P

If he only knew what's under the armor of the alien he's running from...

He should've known you can't judge an alien babe by her armor..

I'm really looking forward to the climax you mentioned, the whole comic just feels like something mega is just around the corner. So many story lines meandering right past each other, so many characters with hidden agendas. Unless you count "get my hands on/in those gloves", in which case they're not so hidden.

I think that boys in River City will be quite surprised when they find out there's a female underneath that armour.  It'll be kind of like how people were surprised at how Samus Aran ended up being a female.  Furthermore, I'm also looking forward to see how things progress in Issue 4 and beyond.

I don't ever want to comment directly on this type of speculation, so as no to confirm or deny, but I'll just say that we're obviously very aware of '80s movie tropes and sometimes we may subvert them in unexpected ways (don't want the comic to be too predicable, after all), and even when we adhere to the common tropes, I'd like to think that we pull it off in our own way.

Sorry, I guess I got a little too carried away with the speculating.

Here were Microwave Dude's guesses:

Guess  #1: The Satan Ninjas get distracted by the arrival of the spaceship and would do some investigating.  They would then encounter Ket and Darwick and an altercation would ensue.  Naturally, Ket and Darwick would end up kicking the Satan Ninja's asses. Guess # 2: Psycho Sam will have an encounter on his way to trying to butt-fuck Debbie Slater.  It will either be Razor and his remaining gang or Mr. Skull (I think I'll go with Mr. Skull, why not?).  Guess #3: We get to see Jennifer and Toxic imprisoned somewhere deep within the Satan Ninja's lair.

All great guesses, but none were quite right on the money. Although the page didn't involve the satan ninjas, it did involve someone going to investigate Ket's space ship, so you totally deserve a cyber high-five as well. Especially since you weren't mega vague like Mumm-rad, which makes it harder to be right.

Aw shucks, I was so close to getting one of my guesses right.  I figured it would've been the Satan Ninjas doing the investigating since they were in closer proximity to the ship. Oh well.  At least I got a cyber high-five out of it.

Great job. Will be interesting to see how all the different storylines converge on each other. But most importantly, will Eddie ever get Veronica? And how will a demonic being not of this Earth looking for a satanic power glove affect his quest to get Veronica?

I can see Eddie using his new identity as a way to attract Veronica and then Veronica being impressed (you know, kind of like in one of the Satan Ninja promo videos).  Anyways, Veronica will be so impressed that she'll ditch Dean and agree to be Eddie's date for the prom.  This will make Dean so jealous that he'll get into an altercation with Eddie but since Eddie's now a Satan Ninja, he'll easily kick Dean's ass.  This of course will lead to even more shenanigans (i.e. the appearance of the Ninja Commander's minions), but I'll end my speculating here.

Even knowing how everything is going to go down, I'm still super pumped to see it play out. Issue 4 will sort of serve as a climax to the first act of the comic. Lots of stuff happens in it that I've been looking forward to for years. Now that we've finally wrapped this epic weekend (crazy to think that only a few days have passed since the comic started), we get to tackle Eddie going back to school for the first time since his transformation, and ... well, I'll just stop there.

I'm really curious to see what solution Eddie comes up with.  Pretend he's going through a Goth phase, perhaps?

Well, according to this website, people started painting and decorating trash cans in the 1980's.  In addition, here's a Pac-Man trash can from the early 1980's.  Hey, now there's an idea: decorative Satan Ninja 198X trash cans!

Are you calling our comic trash?! Heh, well, I guess it can be a little trashy at times...

Just think of it as an interesting merchandising idea.  After all, if it's good enough for big leaguers like Star Wars and Peanuts, then surely it would be good enough for Satan Ninja, right?

How many more pages before this chapter ends?

Just one. Page 38 will be the final page of Issue 3.

Any guesses as to what it's going to contain?

Since it sounds like you're not limiting this to one guess per person, I'll go ahead and make multiple guesses.

Trash cans are one of those things that I knew tended to look a little different in the ‘80s, but it’s not exactly an easy thing to look up for reference. Off the top of my head, I could think of only a couple ‘80s movie scenes involving trash cans. The first is, of course, the scene from Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 which spawned the Garbage Day meme. Then I thought of the oddly similar “innocently taking out the trash only to get shot to death” scene in Commando. And lastly, though I’ve yet to see The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, I figured it must have a trash can somewhere in there, and sure enough there was one on the poster.

So it seemed the standard trash cans of the ‘80s were Oscar the Grouch style metal cans. Yet there were other types at the time, as this Rubbermaid commercial can attest.
Well, according to this website, people started painting and decorating trash cans in the 1980's.  In addition, here's a Pac-Man trash can from the early 1980's.  Hey, now there's an idea: decorative Satan Ninja 198X trash cans!  Furthermore, will anybody at any point in this comic get shot to death while taking out the trash?  If so, will the shooter say some garbage related pun like, "Time to take out the trash?"

By the way, Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 is so fucking weird in that it’s mostly a recap of the first movie. You know those sitcom or anime clip-show episodes that have a really thin plot that merely serves as an excuse for the characters to reminisce so the creators can phone in an episode by playing clips from older ones? It’s like that. Except it’s a movie. And only the second movie in the series. Seriously, there’s only like thirty minutes or so of new footage. However, some of those thirty minutes are pretty fucking glorious.
So, will there be a future issue which will mostly be characters reminiscing about things they did in previous issues like, "Hey, remember that one time we played Crypts & Chimeras at that creepy house?", or "Hey, remember that time I used Psycho Sam and Snacky to weight lift?"

I wonder what secret project Sean is involved in.  Farming ass perhaps?

I'm not sure, actually, but I think it had something to do with recording music.

Well, in case anyone's wondering, that whole "farming ass" thing was a joke I remember from when Maddox had his old podcast.  One time I heard an episode where Sean was absent and the excuse for his absence was because he was "farming ass."

24
So you guys are really going to submit your podcast to the podcast competition show, eh?  It would be totally rad if you guys did that!  Also, I don't know about you guys, but that weird Matthew McConaughey guy that called in sounds a bit like Vin Diesel.

25
Oh man you were going for it, all out defending the 80s. That was really fun to listen to!

Hell heah, Science Dude, I was totally pumped. Maybe a little too pumped, since I didn't leave Jessica much of a chance to talk. But the whole debate was mega fun and I couldn't believe how fast it went by. It felt like maybe fifteen minutes.

Adam knew he had to go all in to defend the 80's because he was dealing with a master debater.

I thought Sean's absence would harm this episode, but it turned out great. It's one of the top episodes.

We were really disappointed when we found out Sean wouldn't be on the show with us, since we were looking forward to meeting him. Not that we have anything against Jessie, who was a great guy.

But I agree, the episode turned out great. I only wish I had reigned myself in a bit to give Jessica more time to talk.

I wonder what secret project Sean is involved in.  Farming ass perhaps?

So is Mr. Skull still bumming around the Slater mansion or is he going to keep playing peek-a-boo with Sam?

An annoying amount of boobs?  That's absurd!  If anything, there needs to be more boobs!  Also, you guys should totally have me as a guest comic-provided of course if you and Jessica like your comic to feature stick figures fighting each other.  Everybody loves stick figures, right?  Anyways, great job on avoiding most of those pitfalls!  I know that doing a web comic is hard work, but you and Jessica are doing phenomenal!   Also, I'm totally not serious about the guest comic thing.  I am actually capable of drawing more than just stick figures, but at the same time I'm not that good of an artist.  I drew a picture of Super Mario a while ago and it's okay, I guess.  You can tell that it's actually supposed to be Super Mario and everything, but still, it's not that impressive.

It just occurred to me that we could totally end the comic right here. Eddie’s now loaded and he and Grandma and Snacky Love can live happily ever after. Because nothing bad could possibly come of Eddie robbing the richest and most powerful man in River City ...

Of course we wouldn’t end the comic here—way too many loose ends. We have Jennifer and Toxic kidnapped by the satan ninja clan … Sam’s mysterious Mr. Skull sightings … Ket and Darwick are earthbound ... then there’s whatever mysterious spooky stuff the C&C coven are up to … and of course, Viper has yet to make his glorious return to the comic (which will happen in Issue 4).

Not to mention there's still a prom coming up and also what about Mordlich the Eternal?  Man, you guys are juggling all these plot-lines like a juggler that's juggling a lot of stuff.

This kind of reminds me of the  scene in Halloween 2 where Michael Myers turns up the heat to the hot tub and then eventually dunks the girl's head into the scalding hot water until she dies.
