And thus wraps the walking home from school/yard encounter sequence.

Next week's page might just be my favorite one so far. Since we'll be at the convention next weekend with uncertain Internet access, we might post next week's page on Thursday before we head out. Not sure yet.

Part of the script for this page got cut in order to speed things along. We liked it, but it wasn't very essential. Here's the little deleted sequence:

Quote
[Eddie is sitting down in the grass and fuming at Dean while Snacky continues to lick him. Alex continues to stand near him.]

DEAN: Look, just to show there aren’t any hard feelings, here’s a peace offering.
(holding out a hundred dollar bill toward Eddie) A hundred bucks for the pig. That way you can buy some clothes that actually fit and I can have a year supply of bacon.

[Eddie says nothing.]

DEAN: No? Your loss. (Dean puts the money back in his wallet)

DEAN: Let’s go, Trent. That pig is grossing me out.

That also shows you how bare-bones my scripts for this comic are. In most cases I leave it up to Jessica to decide when to switch to new panels, what angles to use, and how much of the script to depict on each page. Sometimes, if I have a clear picture in my head that I feel strongly about, then I'll go into more detail, but usually I leave it up to her because I trust her judgment.

Jessica and I waffled back and forth a bit about the idea of Alex “coming to Eddie’s rescue” on this page. On one hand, it seemed fitting, and we thought the idea of her flipping into the scene whirling nunchucks was funny. On the other hand, it’s the kind of thing that could easily be groan worthy. Hopefully, we pulled it off.

I did a short blog post this week, since I've been busy doing Jessica birthday things (she turned 26 on the 12th).

I love the way Jessica draws Eddie's pet pig, Snacky Love. He turned out better than I had imagined.

Also, I think this page is the record for the number of panels we've squeezed into one page. We have a lot to cover in this issue.

[Edit: fixed typo & grammar]

This would've been posted last night, but bullshit technical issues delayed it. All sorted out now, though.

When I was maybe thirteen or so, I saw a couple girls that lived on my street get free ice cream by flirting with the ice cream man. The world felt very unfair at that moment.

So, yeah. This is comic is basically a true story. All of it.

And the exposition continues. This is one of those pages that works just fine within the context of the issue, but isn't so stellar when it stands alone as the weekly update since there isn't any kind of action, joke, or crazy thing occurring.

Next week'll pick things up again.

Yeah, so I'm trying to make these page names more descriptive than creative. When I look through the archive I'd like it to be as easy as possible to find the page I'm looking for.

Anyway, the VHS Joe gifts to Eddie was originally going to be Creepy House Party, which would have been a reference to a no-budget short horror movie I made with my freinds back in 2000 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCcaHruMXu0). But we figured a movie with a sci-fi bent would be more suitable for Joe to give Eddie. Also it kind of ties in nicely with the fact that we just had a couple pages of sci-fi outer-space action.

We considered using Klingon for the alien language, since the original Klingon dictionary was published in the mid-80s, but decided against it. We also considered using the language invented for Quest For Fire, but that was too limited. (By the way, I hadn't seen Quest For Fire until last week. It was awesome.)

I had written an alternate version of this scene in which Lord Hreigh got his face sliced off instead of getting kicked into the pipe that impales his guts. Then the bounty hunters would have had trouble getting their little device to scan his sliced-off face in order to make a proper ID. However, at that point I only knew Lord Hreigh was some kind of "mutant alien" and I was picturing him having more of a human face. The idea doesn't work so well with him as a kind of dragon/triceratops/human hybrid. But that's fine, because it would've caused the scene to go on longer and we've got a whole lot of stuff to try and fit into this issue.

After three pages of Eddie and his friends chatting it up in the school lunch room, we figured the comic could use a sci-fi action sequence devoid of dialogue.

A friend of ours saw this page the other day and asked Jessica if she was going to add sound effects for the laser blasts and such. As some of you may have noticed, we decided that Satan Ninja would use minimal sound effects. Mostly just when we want to draw the reader's attention to a sound or because it's not obvious. For instance, we'd use a sound effect to show a character's stomach grumbling, or for someone off-panel cocking a gun.

If our comic were ever to be made into a movie/series, this scene would have to have to be backed by a Perturbator song. Something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNeQ1B5zpOw
