Lots of great poses and expressions this week, from Joe's tipsy look and his wonderful moment in the last panel to Tina's startled and disappointed expression in panel seven.

I like how in panel 1 it looks like Tina is just sitting at the side of the pool, apparently just waiting for Joe to turn around and notice her.

Here's a random bit of trivia: The black-haired girl that's "chicken fighting" (I never understood why it's called that) is Veronica's best friend, Heather. She's on the shoulder's of her boyfriend, Ryan, which is a character that hasn't been properly introduced yet.

Ended up posting this way later than we anticipated. I've posted a mini-news update along with the page, which you can read here.

In my script, I had the bounty hunters carting out the rotting-faced dude on some kind of sci-fi hover dolly. Jessica decided it'd be funnier if they instead had him strapped onto their motorcycle. It's not too obvious in the image, but they have him bound to it with some glowing sci-fi rope-things.

Also, this was Jessica's first time ever designing a whole spaceship.

Since you said it'd take an 8-bit version I thought it was ok to drop some spoilers..

A totally fair assumption. But ever since Jessica and I started dating she's been determined to someday make me sit though the Matrix sequels, so I can feel the same sense of disappointment she had to endure.

Which movies do you think portray this well?

I'm no Ghoul, but I'll answer anyway. My favorite fight scenes are ones that have a lot of emotional buildup, and then are quick and fucking brutal. A History of Violence is a perfect example of my favorite kind of action scenes.

I'm not into drawn-out Dragon Ball Z-esque battles, because I think it robs the violence of its emotional impact and if a fight scene drags on too long, I find myself getting bored.

Oh man, no pool parties?! That's a mega-bummer. I was fortunate enough to have a well-to-do gramps with a nice big underground heated pool, so that was the summer party-zone for my friends and I. Back in ancient times when this comic was a movie script I planned to make, the pool party scene would have been filmed there.

Hope I didn't give too much away, should you still want to watch it at some point..

Since I do plan on watching the sequels someday, I mostly skimmed over your post, Rijst.

I saw the first Matrix movie when it first came out and I thought it was great. But I hated the impact it had on the film industry. Action films were never the same post-Matrix and that bummed me out. Plus, I was annoyed by how ubiquitous The Matrix quickly became. Everywhere you looked, black trench coats, wraparound sunglasses, and people with that, uh, "raining binary" screensaver. By the time the sequels came out, I was sick of the whole Matrix thing.

Also, Neo seemed like an invincible god at the end of the original, so there didn't seem to be much of a point in making sequels. It seemed like they'd be as dull as trying to beat a game with an invincibility code on.

Are these movies related at all to make this a trilogy or is it just 3 movies put together as a trilogy?

Plot-wise, there is no relation whatsoever. There are no recurring characters or references to previous films.

They're considered a trilogy because they were all made by the same company, with the same producers, and they're all ninja-themed action movies that feature Sho Kosugi (though he plays a different character in each of the films). The second and third films in the trilogy also shared the same director.

I've never actually watched either of the Matrix sequels. Maybe if someone were to edit the entire movies to use 8-bit sound effects, I'd give them a shot.

This gives me good hopes that, despite both of you having a busy life, Satan Ninja 198X will be finished no matter how long it takes.

No doubt about that. Unless some kind of tragedy strikes, we're seeing this through to the end.

Let's hope people will buy the album and it hasn't all been for nothing. I guess there won't be a promotional tour though?

Actually, I intend to release the album online for free. There have been fans who have been waiting for this album for way too long. Of course most of them have long since moved on and have probably forgotten, but there are a few who have continued to patiently wait. I wouldn't feel right charging them for it. Plus, since the band is defunct and the members are mostly living in different places, it'd be too much of a pain to divvy up any profits made.

And nope, no tour. It'd be nice to get a lineup together to play one final show, though.

We only finished one song back when we started recording it in 2005, "Werewolves of the Bloodmoon." My band-mates finished most of the instruments for the album, but that's the only song I completed the vocals for. I started working on the vocals for other songs, but I'm pseudo-tone deaf, so it's really hard for me to tell when I'm singing in key or not. Thus it sometimes takes me a ridiculous number of takes get the vocals right (aggressive vocals are much easier for me). Before I was able to finish the vocals on any of the other tracks, the band kind of fell apart and most of the members ended up moving away.

So for the past nine years I've basically been sitting on an album that was around 80-90% done. I've periodically attempted to record the vocals myself, but without someone to tell me when a take is good, it's like I'm a blind man trying to paint. So it was discouraging and I put the album on the back burner.

Last fall, I started recording again with Jessica's help, and actually started making some good progress. I had hoped to have the album out before 2014, but there were a couple songs that were still missing instruments, and those band-members had scattered to the wind. We tried to arrange a get together to do a final bout of recording, but we weren't able to get everyone's schedules to line up.

However, now things are starting to fall into place and it looks like it'll actually be finished in time for Halloween. It'll be such a huge relief to finally get that album finished and out there as it's been nagging me in the back of my mind for nearly a decade now.

I'll bring this to Ghoul's attention. The website never seems to load that slowly to me, but we've had a couple friends of ours say it's really slow for them, so it's definitely something to look into.

Yeah, between the comic and working extra hours, poor Jessica hardly has time to eat or sleep. And I'm currently consumed with trying to finally finish my band's final album by Halloween (it's been about nine years in the making, which is fucking ridiculous). That's why I didn't post any kind of blog this week. But I don't intend to let that happen two weeks in a row.
