So the only other comic I've read outside of Satan Ninja was Preacher.  Our favorite comic creators Adam and Jess lent me their copy's and encouraged me to read it about 5 years ago now and I loved it.  I've even recently re-read issue one. 

So if you haven't read Preacher go do that because it's kick ass and then you'll be excited about the rest of this post

Adam, Jess, and I have always talked about the comics adaptation to television or film and it seems as though many people have wanted to and couldn't, but a while back it sounded like it was going to get done by AMC with Seth Rogan heading the project and now it's true I just read that AMC has bought 10 one hour episodes.  I'm very excited to see how this is going to turn out. 

Yes it's not 80's but I do think that it relates enough to the Satan Ninja project that I thought I'd share this here.

Really looking forward to issue 3.  I will probably be getting the downloads as soon as my nook is in WiFi range. 

I think the new version of Minxy is better.   She appears less anime and more typical 80's American.

I've always liked the characters page and the updates are great. 

Is it me or does Heather look better than Veronica in those pictures?

Heh, while Jessica was drawing Heather, she actually said something like, "I think I might be doing too good of a job on her, she might be looking a little too hot." Ideally, Heather and Veronica should be two sides of the same popular babe coin, it's just that ones a brunette and the other is a blonde.

I've actually always thought Heather is better looking in some panels, but I prefer brunettes most of the time. 

btw there is a typo in the bottom of Trent's main interest.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, back in the '90s, premium channels would be "scrambled" on your TV unless you paid for them. Here's an example of what a scrambled channel was like. You could hear the channel perfectly fine, and you could usually kind of make out what was happening on screen, but the image would be all warped with fucked up colors. So you'd occasionally be able to spot a bouncing green tit or whatever. And every once in a great while the stars would align, and you'd actually get a totally clear image for a glorious second or two of jerk-off bliss.

Haha at least we had that,  now these lucky kids get the whole damn internet with broadband cable connection.  They don't know how good they have it lol.

Well I'm starting to get used to Jess blogging now. I like it.

So I listened to the segment about the fan art, it's very cool that they gave a shout out to Satan Ninja. 

I'm so ready to start seeing issue 3.  Enough fan art, S.N. only....lol nah I'm not that demanding.

Haha that photo shoot looks like Women's fitness clashed with Fast Times at Ridgemont High.  That of course is not a bad thing at all.

I was glad the GR Comic Con guy was nice and tried to be helpful, but I couldn't help but get sort of watery-eyed while talking to him. I feel too strongly about this issue as a whole. I know it's his con and he wants to make as much money as possible. I can't stand this perpetuation of the whole "comics are just for kids" mentality though, among many other facets of this issue.

I agree the "comics just for kids" stuff is ignorant and insulting for pretty much all artist and most readers. Though I guess I can see the need for a family friendly con.  Kids do have as much right to be fans as adults and I'm sure many parents appreciate the opportunity for a safe place for their kids to have the con experience. 

That being said I'm not sure why he discriminates against all other artist by not having a separate section or separate con to accommodate other artist.

I'm guessing that you guys are not the only local artist that feel this way. Maybe it's time you use some of your college contacts and maybe even your alumni status to get the college involved and put together your own con. Grand Rapids as a whole has been expanding in it's acceptance of art, mainly because of Art Prize but I'm sure a comic and/or artist convention, especially if it was marketed well would really take off.

Sounds like a very busy 3 weeks. Glad you guy's had another successful con experience.  Even though a couple were rather small it seems as though it has helped the learning curve a little so they were worth your time.   

While it's not the outcome you may have liked, it is pretty cool that guy seemed to go out of his way to help explain his intentions and help you guy's.

Have you guy's thought about using more social media to draw people to your table?  I'm thinking at a larger con such as Chicago doing something like a live tweet or Instagram using lots of hashtags may draw people over to your booth or to the website.

Oh man, I barely know what I'm doing on Twitter as it is. I should try to remedy that eventually. Ugh.

Yeah you probably should.  Out of all of the apps I use Twitter the least.  I do know that is a very successful means for marketing in real time. Plus even if a user is not at the con you are web based so it should be very easy for you to pick up a following that way. 


I'm very excited for the release of issue 3 and for this hiatus to be over.

So awesome this one worked out so well for you.

It sounds like this was not only a great learning experience but also a great time.  The later part is very important, if you don't like doing it the money part of it really don't matter.

I think it's awesome you guy's sold out the comic.  I have always wondered how a small artist would do in such a setting.  I would imagine many of the people there would only have so much to spend and already have an idea of what they wanted from some of the bigger artist or dealers, not leaving so much to spend on new stuff they find though they may still visit the website if interested.

1st off I am digging the 80's costume and I hope you do all of your future con's in some kind of 80's over the top fashion. 

2nd It is very cool that this con worked out for you,  I do remember some Facebook posts you had about you're disappointment with the rules.  I do hope that in the future those rules change.  Grand Rapids is trying to trend in the way of progress and acceptance of all forms of art and these con rules seem to go in the opposite direction.
