This page took Jessica a bit longer than usual, but it's a pretty loaded page. The top panel is easily the most characters she's drawn in a single panel before.

The first movie totally flew under my radar, so this is the first I've heard of Iron Sky. Looks interesting, but I'm already a supporter of Kung Fury, and I'm not sure if there's room in my heart for another European crowd-funded over-the-top indy movie project about Nazis, Hitler, and riding around on a T-rex.

How dare you spoil the masterpiece of cinema that is Superman III.

No worries, we weren't even planning on watching it, since it it seemed too stupid, even for us. But that clip has intrigued me.

By the way, I had to register on deviantart and someone had already taken the name Rijst. The world is full of copycats it seems..

Jessica just told me I could have simply hotlinked the images from deviantArt, so I've edited my first post again to do just that.

As for the name, you should just do the same thing the Ghostbusters cartoon had to do in the '80s, when another Ghostbusters had beaten them to the punch: name yourself "The Real Rijst."

I did notice the necktie but I thought calling it a necktie would be weird. It makes him look slightly geeky but maybe that's just prejudice. Shame about the buttons but it's a very small detail that I didn't notice.

Jessica fixed the buttons, gave him more obvious moon boots, and I slightly revised some of the dialogue, so we've updated the page (you may need to refresh it to see the updated version).

Also, the necktie is totally supposed to make him seem geeky. Sam's attempt to give Eddie a metal guy makeover is basically a big failure. In my script, I wrote that Eddie awkwardly looks at himself in the mirror, just before Sam tells him to get some "metal attitude." But instead of looking all awkward and uncertain, like I had imagined, Jessica decided to draw Eddie giving himself a kind of content smile. When I saw that, it made me laugh myself to tears. I doubt anyone would find that quite as funny as me, but I love it.

Well, they clearly didn't teach him how to fill out a proper risk assessment. Anyone knows that if you combine humans and machines into one you get murderous machines. I mean, one look at this clip tells you enough, although I guess Teen Genius didn't have youtube to help him..

Haha! Superman III is actually the only Christopher Reeve Superman movie I haven't seen. But now I just might have to.

I just want Eddie to get to that party because shit is going to go down one way or another. There's no way that party won't be amazing to witness.

Babe Alert: Sweet, Minxy makes an appearance! Seems like she's destined to be more important later on, especially with the Satan theme of the comic and her being a succubus.

If she's actually a succubus.

With all these storylines... is it too late for me to be a reader who doesn't discover this comic for a few more years so there's a ton of back issues to catch up on?

You could always bookmark our site and return to it in a few years. But by then it'll probably have been taken offline for the crime of overloading the 'net with radicalness.

(Also, each week when there are no actual babes on the page I wonder if that'll be the last week that I do Babe Alert, at least on the male-centric weeks, but then the following week there's always some new babe(s) to talk about. Love it.)

That's very well done, even the way the bandana is tied and the buttons on Sam's jacket are correct.

But not the buttons on Eddie's cut up shirt (though she did get his chest pocket right). Jessica'll probably be bummed to know that slipped past her. Also, not sure if you noticed, but that thing on Eddie's head is actually a necktie that Sam turned into a make-shift headband.

Rad indeed, is this why recording the vocals for your latest album took so long Adam?

Minxy is a character Jessica originally drew as a pinup birthday present for me back in April of 2011. She put the piece, titled “Succubus Schoolgirl” on her deviantArt and it quickly became her most popular piece by far. A year later, she made a second pinup of the character, giving her the name Minxy.

I’m not sure when we came up with the idea of having her in the comic, but here she is, busting out of her schoolgirl outfit and shredding guitar.

Some of you might be wondering what the fuck is going on with Sam’s hair. You see, way back when Jessica first drew a prologue to this comic in 2009, Sam was more of a skaterpunk with short(ish) hair that was bleach blond with dark roots showing. Shortly before we publicly launched the comic, we decided to revamp Psycho Sam, giving him long hair and turning him into more of a metalhead.

However, we recently realized that giving Sam long hair and sideburns made him look too similar to another character that’ll be introduced in the future.

So now you might be thinking, “Okay, so wouldn't it be more logical to redesign the character that hasn't been introduced yet?”

That’s a great point, but we had another issue with Sam's long-haired look. We envision him as being into both metal and punk, but the long-haired look pushed him too far into the metalhead direction. With his current (and hopefully final) redesign, he looks more “right” to us.

Jessica updated his appearance in most of the previous pages, but she still needs to do the cover to issue 2, the one Psycho Sam panel in issue one, and Sam's profile picture on the website. Those'll be posted soon. In the meantime just chalk his chaotic evolving hair up to his "psychoness."

Also, Sam isn't playing guitar left handed; that's their reflection in the mirror.

Man, where do you find al these hilarious movies.

Easy. Just pick any b-grade fantasy, horror, sci-fi, or action film from the '80s and there's a pretty good chance it'll be a stupid good time.

Was there ever any explanation for that robot? Does it help do the dishes or something?

Teen Genius was going to college for robotics, and BB was basically his life's work. I think at one point they show BB mowing the lawn, but he was more of a companion/pet robot than a maid.

Well not rushing out to find a copy today.  This does sound like a movie I'd watch if I found it channel surfing.  Too bad it was wrecked by the studio, it pretty much seems it would have been better as its original story.

There have been a few attempts by fans to get the studio to release Wes Craven's original cut of the movie, but I doubt the studio will ever bother, since the sales it would get probably wouldn't make it worth the hassle.

For the first decade or so of making movies, I didn't have any means of editing them. So I had to "edit" them in the camcorder as we filmed. Meaning, we had to be acting the second the record button was pushed, (because we had no way to edit out the "pre-action" footage) and we likewise had to press the button to stop recording as soon as it was a good time to stop the scene. This also meant that we had to film every movie in the linear chronological order. If we had a bad scene, our only option was to simply rewind the tape, try to pause it just as the previous scene ended, and then record the scene again. Since that was a pain in the ass to time right, we almost never did more than a single take.

That limitation is one of the reasons I never wrote scripts for my old movies. Since my friends and I weren't the best actors, we'd probably fuck up a bunch if we attempted to recite a script from memory, so instead we'd come up with a basic idea of what would happen during the scene, and then simply improvise it once the camcorder was rolling.

I know Mega City Dragons is charming in how shitty it is and how we're a bunch of kids acting like we're in Double Dragon or something, but by the time we got in our late teens I think we actually started making some camcorder shorts that were genuinely good, like Count Orlox Gets Head and Creepy House Party 2. We definitely got a lot better at improv, at least.

Didn't anyone ever get out of their car to stop you guys from beating each other up and filming it? I can't imaging kids doing this sort of thing on the street today..

Heheh. My mom was the one recording it, so perhaps the people diving by just assumed she was making children's battle videos.

Love it, including the "No NES for the wicked" slogan. I used to play DD (II) mostly on my game boy because I didn't have a NES, I must've finished that game about a dozen times, great fun!

The Double Dragon is franchise is dear to my heart, as the original game is the first game I recall beating (I beat the arcade version after my grandpa gave me five bucks worth of quarters to blow at a bowling alley). I loved the NES version of Double Dragon II, but I never played the Game Boy version so I just looked it up to see how different it was.

Interestingly, the Game Boy version is actually a completely different game. It was originally a game in the Kunio-kun franchise (best known in the US for the game River City Ransom--another of my favorite games), but the game was re-tooled for the US and European release to turn it into a Double Dragon game. Weird.

It reminds me how some of the early Final Fantasy Game Boy games weren't really related to the Final Fantasy series at all, but were actually totally different RPGs that were re-branded as Final Fantasy games outside of Japan due to the Final Fantasy brand recognition.

But don't feel too bad about playing a fake Double Dragon. I bet it was a million times better than this one Tiger Electronics Double Dragon game I used to play. Fucking Tiger Electronics handhelds were the bane of my childhood Christmases.

I'll have a look at the Mega City Dragons when I get home from work. There's a good chance my boss will love it as well but I don't want to risk it on my second week..

Haha, you're right. Best to ease your boss into such things. Also, if you actually watched Mega City Dragons ... I'm sorry.

It shows a level of dedication to fun bags the comic that few writers can match. You're right though, Tina doesn't have huge knockers. This proves that they're not a main topic in SN8X at all..

Thanks. Turboceptor-1 is, like a lot of the names in our comic, a combination of a few names taken from different '80s sources.

Ended up watching quite a few of his videos. Impressive stuff. Reminds me of Vomitron, who did a super rad album of NES game themes covered as metal songs. Here's his take on the Double Dragon theme, which I used a bunch when I was editing the first short movie I ever made, Mega City Dragons.

Good! We wondered how many readers might get pissed off that this badass space bounty hunter turns out to not only be a girl, but an anime fox-girl. With an adorable pink sidekick.

Wow.  Truly a surprise for me.  I have never got into anime at all.  I do remember several  of my friends were reall into Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon, but i really dont remember any of it from the 80s.

Not even Voltron? The first Voltron series was originally an anime called Beast King GoLion ("Go" being the Japanese word for "Five"). And then there were the pseudo anime cartoons like Transformers, which was drawn and animated in Japan, but the rest of the production was handled in the US.

Darwick resembles a Carebear though.

Hey, not every chick in our comic is stacked. Why, just look at... uh, Tina! Yeah. See? Tit equality. But yeah, it certainly would have been easier if we hadn't made Kit one of the most boobacious characters in a roster that already skews top-heavy, but we've always imagined her to be over-the-top sexed out.

But actually, huge tits weren't so ubiquitous in '80s anime as they became later. They weren't unheard of (Fujiko Mine from Lupin III had been boobing it up on television since the '70s), but they were surprisingly rare. It seems the general style of the time favored girls with very petite frames and modest busts, I would guess in large part due to the extreme popularity of the character Lum from Urusei Yatsura. Even characters that were meant to be busty "in-universe," like the Dirty Pair, were drawn with boobs that would seem rather small by today's anime standards.

That's right. I'm like a sage of anime tits.
