Discuss Anything / Re: Metal Thread Vol.666
« on: April 06, 2018, 09:51:43 PM »
Aww man, this was just subtle enough that for a second, I was fooled into thinking this was a genuine post.

Here's a tip (assuming you ever read this), next time you go to a forum to try and sneakily promote your band, perhaps you shouldn't register on the forum using your band's name, and using your band's logo as your avatar. Also, it'd be a lot more subtle if you commented on a few other threads first, before posting your advertisement. And maybe post only one of your band's songs, along with two of three others that are unrelated. Or, better yet, be active in the forum and just have a link to your band in your signature. You could even bring up your band occasionally when its relevant to do so.

Believe me, I know how hard it is to spread the word about your creative endeavors. But this sort of underhanded spam will just make your band seem lame and annoying. Even if I had liked your music (it isn't my thing; I can't stand death/black metal vocals), I'd be hard pressed to want to support a band that was going around spamming forums.

Edit: Well shit, now I'm confused. I see that you actually registered for this forum back in 2016, so maybe you actually are a SN8X fan. The fact this was your first post and that it contained self-promo made me assume your had just registered specifically to promote your band.

Thanks everyone. As I just said in a thread on the Discuss Anything forum, things are looking up for Jessica, and she's easing herself back in to doing art.

Looks like Veronica isn't going to let Eddie out of her sight any time soon....!  ;D

Yeah, apparently not even long enough to put another shirt on.

We decided to make September black as a homage to the little-known trivia that one of the two original TMNT creators says he had always wanted April to be a black chick (the other creator says that's not true, so who knows). Kinda weird to have a black chick with such an Irish surname, but of course it's not unheard of. One of Jessica's art teachers was a black dude with the surname McDonald.

Of course, making September black also makes the reference just a little less obvious.

And now Jessica and I just learned about a new TMNT cartoon series that actually has a black April O'Neil. So much for Steptember being a less obvious reference...

Wow, you dudes seriously rule. We're mega lucky to have such understanding fans.

Things are actually looking better for Jessica. She's not a hundred percent yet, but she's definitely a lot better than she was doing a month ago. There's still more doctor's appointments and evaluations for her to go through, but things are definitely looking up. She biggest problem she's facing now is being intimated by the huge backlog that's accumulated during her downtime.

Also, sorry it took me so long to come here and respond. I've been on a sort of avoiding this site, just because it would bum me out to think about how we're not updating it. But now I'm going to return to my practice of checking this site at least once a day.

And welcome to the forum Menard! ::high-five::

Discuss Anything / While Jessica Recovers: To Blog, or Not to Blog?
« on: February 06, 2018, 01:59:58 AM »
As I'm sure all you dudes know, Jessica's going through some health issues that are impairing her ability to work on the comic. Which means no new SN8X pages until she gets better.

That leaves me with a bit of a dilemma. I have blog posts written up and ready to post, but I've been holding off. Since the SN8X comic is the radical neon heart of this website, I don't imagine we'd be getting much traffic while the comic's not being updated.

So in a way, I suppose making such blog posts right now would feel like a bit of a wasted effort on my part, since they'd be less likely to be viewed by as many people. Any new blog post I make would also bump down my recent "State of the Comic" blog post, making it less likely that new visitors would learn what the current deal with the comic is.

On the other hand, if we don't post any kind of updates on this site, that would cause the site to become lower priority in search engine results. And, of course, the longer we go without posting any sort of update, the greater the chances are that people might forget about our little awesome corner of the Internet.

I'm basically just thinking out loud here. I'd be happy to hear any thoughts or suggestions.

Would this lead to some MIB(Men In Black) type agents to converge on Eddie's school???

Were this a '90s-themed comic, this would be the perfect time to pay tribute to one of my and Jessica's favorite shows: The X-Files.

September MacLeod-a nice parody/homage to April O'Neil from TMNT.

Heh, I didn't think it'd take too long for someone to call out that reference.

Oh man, sounds like you guys are having a hard time.

Best of luck getting your lives back on track, take the time you need!

Thanks, Scientist Dude!

The hardest thing about this for me is that I hate being so helpless as I watch my favorite babe struggle with this stuff. All I can do is smother her in the radiant love beams of my Care Bear Stare.

And congrats on being comic on the year, must be great to see your hard work getting noticed out there.

Hell yeah!

The timing could've been a bit better though...

EDIT: To any of Jessica's patrons who are reading this--catching up on her Patreon rewards is her top priority (aside from getting better). The going will be slow for the time being, but she absolutely intends to fulfill every reward.

Thanks, Australian Dude!

Also, at least we've left Eddie in a very happy place for now.

Jessica’s been having health issues that’ve gotten worse over the past year. Nothing life threatening or anything, but she ended up having a bad reaction to some medication that was supposed to help her, so she’s been in total Bummerville these past few months.

That’s why things have been so quiet around here. She’s trying a different medication now, and we’re hopeful that she’ll soon be able to ninja flip her way back to Healthyland. Then she’ll resume kicking ass on the comic.

But for now, she’s going to focus on feeling better.

Now to end on some rad news: Comicon.com selected Satan Ninja 198X as one of the eight best webcomics of 2017! We’ve also booked a table at the Anime Midwest convention in Chicago, so if you’re in the area the weekend of July 6th, you should totally visit us.

No secret identity is one thing, but telling everyone about the magic glove? A bold move..

Totally. Eddie can be a bit of a dummy at times, but I can't blame the dude this time since he's feeling on top of the world at the moment.

Eddie's finally got the girl! After all these years in the making! (Well a few days in the span of the comic lol)

Actually, years in-comic too, since Eddie been "secretly popping boners for" Veronica since the seventh grade. However, it might be a bit premature to say that he's "got the girl", though things are certainly looking a lot more promising in that regard.

Discuss Comic Pages / Issue 4 - Rad As Hell - Page 7 - September MacLeod

“Storm … Storm ... Stormkitties. Gooooo!”

Hmm, doesn’t quite have the same ring to it...

Anyway, you can see we’re not doing the whole secret identity thing in this comic. We also decided not to have the body of the demon conveniently disappear or turn into ash upon death. We think it’s just more fun to have it linger around and be studied by scientists and reported about on the evening news.

...and they are:

1. Politics
2. Religion

...and...

3. Who owes who money...!

 :) ;) ;D :P

Most importantly, don't talk about The Rapeman.

...Unless your family rules.

BTW-What is aetherspace???

Good question. This website actually has an easily overlooked sub-section of the "About" page containing a "Glossery" that defines some of the comic's unique terms.

Basically, if you're familiar with Star Wars, then you probably know about hyperspace. Aetherspace is pretty much the SN8X-verse's version of hyperspace.

I just realized that this is the 100th page of the Satan Ninja comic (not counting the covers), so I've edited the original post to mention that milestone.

Looks like Eddie's popularity shot up past the roof!! ;D

Of course. I mean, who woudln't love a good-guy satan ninja?

It seems that no one asked how Eddie changed...overnight! :D

Yeah, it seems that in the SN8X-verse, strange things often happen (especially in River City), and people tend to roll with it. Strange indeed... But hey, that's mega convenient for us, otherwise we'd spend half the comic dealing with everyone flipping out and questioning everything as they try to make sense of all the madness. There's so many questions that could be asked... Like, just how does Eddie bathe if he can't take off his ninja outfit?  (The answer, of course, is ninja magic keeps him clean--after all, you can't be as stealthy if you smell bad.) Why are there apparently only seven students in Eddie's gym class? (Hey, maybe there's more and they've just been off-panel.) Why are so many of the girls so boobacious? (Maybe it's something in River City's water supply--something awesome.)

I love this page. Veronica is being a slut and the look on the teacher's face in panel 3 is priceless.

Thanks, Science Dude!

Very convenient indeed that earth time dictates the summoning of monsters across the galaxy.

It occurs to me that we now have a perfect setup for SN8X to serve as a Power Rangers-esque show. Mordlich is basically Rita Repulsa, and he can send forth a new demon for our hero to battle each episode. We just need to get a cast of color-coded team-mates for Eddie. And some powerful combining mechs, of course. But that's way too '90s (at least in the US; in Japan, the Super Sentai series that Power Rangers is, uh, "based on", started in the mid-70s and has been going strong ever since).

Are characters going to refer to time in earth-days, earth-seconds, etc from now on?

The space characters might, or, now that it's established, we might drop it simply to save that valuable text space. Speaking of which, I was worried Jessica might not be able to fit all of this page's text on there without me making some cuts (or bumping some panels into the next page), but she totally managed to pull it off.
