First off, the comic isn't dead. Jessica put it on hold for a while as she worked on an art commission for a family member, but she finally finished that yesterday, so now the comic is her top art priority.

All right! Our first Radicast Halloween Special--and we totally released it in time for Halloween! Right?! I’ve barely slept these past couple days in order to get this recorded and edited on time, so I can only assume that I totally succeeded. Fuck yeah! So, happy Halloween!

We cover five (FIVE!) ‘80s horror films in this episode, from classics to delightfully terrible trash you’ve probably never heard of. We discuss and review Lifeforce (1985), Dolls (1987), Prince of Darkness (1987), The Lamp (1987), and Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988).

Jessica and I recently did that whole marriage thing, but instead of embarking on a honeymoon we sat down with Bob, one of my longtime best friends (ever since he discovered I had a Game Genie in 5th grade), to watch the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger classic, Predator.

SN8X Hiatus Ends Oct. 13th! Also, New Radicast Up Now!

First the big news: on October, Friday the 13th, the most spooky day possible, we will finally resume updating the Satan Ninja 198X webcomic on a weekly basis. Fuck yeah!

Of course, OF COURSE this hiatus lasted waaay longer than we anticipated. Sorry about that. It kills us to not be pumping more life-blood into our radical ‘80s child. The hiatus was drawn out due to a bunch of factors, not the least of which was us getting married over the summer.

So, again, I apologize for any inconvenience caused by our love.

In the meantime, we have a couple episodes of our ‘80s media review podcast, Radicast 198X, which we recorded several weeks ago, but never got around to editing and uploading … until now!

This week’s episode marks Radicast’s exciting journey into the double digits with episode 10 (technically, it’s our eleventh episode if you count the one we did on Supergirl, which is exclusive to Jessica’s Patreon).

This time we discuss two very iconic mid-'80s fantasy films that have a lot in common. They both bombed at the box office only to go on to become cult classics. They both star gorgeous "cold" brunettes. And they both are titled a single word that starts with the letter "L".

I'm speaking, of course, of the 1986 Jim Henson directed Labyrinth and the 1985 Ridley Scott directed Legend.

The comic hiatus continues for just a bit longer, but to help you endure the wait, we've resumed our weekly podcast: Radicast 198X.

We kick off our glorious podcast return with this episode where we discuss and review two very different films from 1986: the bizarre high school gross-out comedy Class of Nuke 'Em High (Troma's second best movie), and the chick flick disguised as an action-adventure comedy, Crocodile Dundee.

In other Satan Ninja news, Jessica went through and made a whole bunch of minor updates and corrections to Satan Ninja pages. Mostly mega minor stuff that you wouldn't notice without directly comparing the updated pages with the old ones, but one of biggest changes is that the van the satan ninjas use in issue 1 is now '80s accurate. When Jessica first drew it, she must've accidentally used a more modern van as a reference, resulting in an anachronism. Whoops! Neither of us are knowledgeable about vehicles, so the mistake slipped past us until a reader recently pointed it out.

If you're really curious to see exactly how the old pages were updated, Jessica posted some before and after examples on her Patreon, which, by the way, is starting to creep close to reaching the first milestone, at which point Jessica will release the flash animated original trailer for Satan Ninja 198X, from way back in 2008 when it was called Shinobi Fist: Legend of the Badass Ninja. Thanks a lot to all you dudes and dudettes who help support this comic—you totally rule!

Radicast 198X - The New Kids, Care Bears Movie, Private Resort

We thought we'd try something a little different this episode and cover three films, but in less depth than we typically do. We figure this would be a good way to feature things that we otherwise wouldn’t talk about since we'd be hard pressed to discuss them for an entire episode. Let us know if you prefer this format, or if you'd rather see us stick to one topic per episode. Currently, I foresee us doing a mix of both, but we'd like to hear your feedback.

The three movies we discuss are all quite different, starting with the teen thriller The New Kids, then things shift from spooky to saccharine as we discuss The Care Bears Movie, and finally, we talk about the sex comedy that Johnny Depp is embarrassed to have starred in: Private Resort. Just about the only thing these three movies have in common is they were all released in 1985.

Radicast 198X - Episode 6 - Evil Dead 2

We have a mega-special double-length episode of our podcast this week. Not only does it feature our first guest, the awesome Gregg Samsa, but it also features us discussing a movie that's incredibly important to me: Evil Dead 2.

Of course, we also talk a lot about the original Evil Dead and Army of Darkness. We also discuss how horror movies in general evolved over the course of the '80s, and at the end of the episode, we tell the tale of how Gregg and the "vampire killer of Paris" are largely responsible for Jessica and I meeting. I also share a few anecdotes from my days as the singer of the horror-themed rock band The EverDead, including my very intimate encounter with a gay zombie.

Radicast is also now on Google Play and iTunes, so it should be a lot easier for people to subscribe and listen to.

But don't worry, the comic is still our focus. Jessica had to finish up another commission before the holidays, but she's done with that now and is back to working on the next comic page.

Radicast 198X Episodes 2 & 3: Vision Quest & Police Story

In our third podcast episode, we discuss Police Story, a 1985 kung fu action comedy co-written, directed by, and starring Jackie Chan.

You might be wondering what happened to episode 2. Well, it’s right here, under this rug, because we sorta fucked up. The program we used to record it detected the webcam we had plugged in (but weren’t using), and, because the program is a total dick, it decided to use the webcam’s shitty microphone instead of the good microphone that we were actually talking into. So the audio quality isn't the best, but we didn’t realize our goof until I went to edit it. Lesson learned.

We decided it just wouldn't be the same if we were to completely re-record the episode. Besides, it’s not unlistenable, it’s just not up to the high standards we strive for.

Check it out, and if you don’t mind the sub-par audio, you get to hear us discuss a rather obscure 1985 teen movie called Vision Quest.

Radicast 198X Episode 1 - Death Wish 3

That's right, we've jumped on board the podcast bandwagon. Or, actually, we're riding our skateboards while holding on to the back of the bandwagon, Marty McFly style, because that's way cooler than sitting in some fucking crowded bandwagon.

For the past few years, Jessica and I have almost exclusively consumed media from the '80s (partially for our entertainment, and partially as research for the comic). After every movie or show that we watch, I read up about it and then Jessica and I tend to discuss it and give our ratings (out of five). So we figured we might as well turn those discussions into a short podcast (most episodes run about 30 minutes).

The very first trial episode we recorded was actually after we saw the terrible 1984 Supergirl movie. However, we recorded it really late so Jessica was mega tired and it showed in the recording. We consider that episode zero, and instead of releasing it publicly, Jessica made it available to her patrons as a little bonus.

For our first "official" episode, we discuss the awesomely terrible 1985 movie Death Wish 3.
