Q: What does 198XXX stand for?
A: The 198XXX series is a spin-off of the ‘80s-themed action-comedy webcomic called Satan Ninja 198X. The “198X” in the title is a reference to the fictional year in which the comic takes place. This is because the comic’s setting takes inspiration from the entirety of the 1980s decade, so we decided to leave the exact year ambiguous.
Once we decided to make an erotic spin-off of the comic, it seemed fitting to tack a couple more Xs to the end of the year to signify that it’s pornographic. So any story that’s stamped with the 198XXX logo means it’s an erotic story that takes place in the Satan Ninja 198X universe.
Q: Is Satan Ninja 198X an erotic comic?
A: No, not really. It’s an action-comedy, though it has enough nudity and campy sexual content to earn it a hard R rating if it were a movie. In fact, one of the only criticisms the comic has ever gotten from a detractor is that is has an “annoying amount of boobs.”
Q: So why does a non-erotic webcomic have a spin-off series of erotic stories?
A: A few reasons. For one, there’s a huge market online for erotic fiction. In fact, it’s pretty much the only genre that someone can self-publish books in and be almost guaranteed to get at least some sales. Also, it’s fun to write, and it creates another way for potential fans to discover the comic. Plus, the comic already features some hyper-sexualized characters like Veronica and Minxy, who lend themselves well to that sort of fiction.

A: It's not necessary at all. The erotica stories take place before the start of the comic and they're written to be stand-alone. Though the stories take place in the comic’s setting (taking place before the start of the comic) there won’t be any significant events in them that’ll have any real bearing on the comic’s story. These are just stand-alone shallow stories about the sexual adventures of some of the comic’s prominent babes. In fact, Eddie, the comic’s main character, is not featured in any of them (though he’s mentioned on occasion). The only thing you might miss out on by skipping the Veronica stories is some insight into her and her relationship with Dean. But Veronica’s not exactly a complex character to begin with.
Q: Why do so many of the erotica stories focus on Veronica? What about all the other babes in the Satan Ninja comic?
A: Because one of the keys to selling erotica stories is to make sure your story caters to fans of a particular erotica niche. Two such niches are "cheerleader" and "bimbo," both of witch Veronica epitomizes. So it made sense to write stories focusing on her. Plus, she's already a highly sexualized character, so it woudln't feel weird to feature her in erotica. Paranormal erotica is another popular niche, so we plan to test the waters with a Minxy the Succubus story.
Q: So, besides Veronica and Minxy, what characters from the comic can we expect to show up in the erotica?
A: Only the characters that make sense to include in such stories. So in the Veronica stories, you can expect some cameos from her friends, like Heather and Tina. And of course Dean is featured prominently in some of them. Since these are written to be true to the comic’s canon, you won’t find stories about Corey boning Alex, or anything like that (sorry all you Corey/Alex shippers).
