When we were coming up with the birth name Eddie’s hippie mom burdened him with, we wanted something super dumb and ‘80s and girly. Thus, Baby Moondreamer was born. He’s so lucky that Grandma eventually relented and allowed him to change his name to Eddie McCarthy, but those first couple years of school were brutal for poor Ed.

Speaking of Grandma, when I was researching for her character, I read up a bit on the effects a stroke can have, and it’s so fuckin’ weird how much it can change a person's personality. Usually it causes previously existent personality traits to become more extreme, but sometimes it causes the victim to take on personality traits that are the complete opposite of their pre-stroke selves. In the case of Grandma McCarthy, she went from being somewhat reserved and over protective, to being outspoken and generally carefree without much regard for the feelings of others.

We had showed the Minxy poster in a blog post several months ago during our hiatus, but Jessica decided to update it a bit for this page, mostly redoing her face and her boobs.

Adam I've been getting into vinyl, know any synth-based stuff that translates real well to that?

Jessica do you like Baroness? I know they aren't 80s but them and Royal Blood are pretty much the only harder bands I like. That and Sleep but that's stoner metal as hell.

Also I feel bad making this pun but I suppose you could say that there's.... different strokes for different folks?

Yeah, his room takes up most of the attic of their house, so it's pretty big. His grandpa originally built it before Eddie was born to serve as his personal getaway. I actually designed detailed floor plans for both Eddie and Alex's houses.

Adam I've been getting into vinyl, know any synth-based stuff that translates real well to that?

I have no idea what translates well into vinyl, but I know both Perturbator and Carpenter Brut have had some vinyl releases, but they might have been limited.

This might come as a surprise to some people, since Jessica and I are so entrenched in '80s media, but we're not the type of people who purchase VHS tapes or vinyl. In fact, we prefer to watch '80s movies on blu-ray, if they're available. And our music library is almost entirely digital. We have some friends who are into collecting analog media, but we tend to embrace technology. We're incredibly frugal, but our computers and our entertainment center are the only things we've ever really splurged on.

I'm not really into any Synth type music but I do collect vinyl.  Unless you can find originals in great shape, I would be on the lookout for some re-releases in 180g audio-file copy's.  Most of your rock and country stuff don't sound too bad with cracks and pops but I don't think synth would hold up the same.  It does appear that you can find some of Perturbator's stuff on vinyl at Amazon.

Big aha-moment here about gramps, yes people often come out of a stroke very different from before. She doesn't seem to have any major physical limitations though so I guess she's lucky.

Like I said, it's nothing major. Jessica altered some of the shading, the direction some the character's eyes are looking, added in a hint of Eddie's dresser and baby picture in panel 4. Also added the baby picture in panel 2, and added the Eddie and Joe picture into some of the panels. Probably the most notable change is that Alex now starts to respond to Eddie before getting distracted by seeing his baby picture. All minor things that I'm not at all surprised you missed.

While I don't remember not seeing this stuff, the changes are great.  Jess you do an excellent job of filling in the background with so much detail I always feel like I'm missing something when I read the pages.  I think a big part of that is that I'm not a true "comic book" reader I tend to have a hard time paying attention to the art sometimes.  I know I'm getting better though especially looking for facial expression and eye glances.  I try to follow the story panel to panel after my initial read through hoping to get a broader prospective of whats happening.

I hadn't heard of any of those bands. Just checked out Baroness and Royal Blood and I actually preferred Royal Blood. I liked it. Baroness wasn't bad either, it just didn't hit the spot for me I guess. I haven't heard very much new music in general, but I think my favorite newer stuff (from the past ten years) would be Cancerslug, Municipal Waste, Ghost, and Chromeo.

Thanks! Haha, glad you're making an effort to take in my details. The faces are where it's at. And hands. Check those out too. I've wasted too much time drawing hands for people to not stare at each of them for at least several minutes a piece.

When I'd do my yearly First Aid training as a security guard, my supervisor would always tell us about how her mom had a stroke and suffered horrible short-term memory loss ever after. She would do things like start baking a pie, then start baking another pie because she forgot she was already baking one. Lots of burny cooking accidents, I guess. I couldn't help but think of that with grandma cooking her mac n cheese.

Bands like Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Jan Hammer (Miami Vice guy), etc. were all recorded analog with analog synths and would be considered probably the best candidates for owning on vinyl. In the end though, the sound quality isn't discernible between vinyl and digital, so I would just look at what albums you really like and pick them up on vinyl - it's the novelty of collecting and the process of playing them that, to me, makes a record collection worthwhile.
