Issue 4 - Rad As Hell - Cover
« on: May 29, 2017, 10:43:51 PM »

We’re technically still on hiatus, but we wanted to post the cover to Issue 4 so you dudes could see that the comic’s still alive and kicking ass.

I’m so fucking pumped for Issue 4, as it’s when the core concept of the comic really kicks in—like a Van Damme style jumping spin-kick to the face. This cover offers a nice taste of what you can expect (as in, within the first few pages of the issue).

Each of our previous covers had gotten progressively more and more busy as we kept adding more characters. For this one, we decided to scale it back and focus on just three characters, which would also give the background a chance to shine (Jessica spent an abnormally long time on the background, as she kept re-working it over and over and over—gotta get that Hell landscape just right). This cover also highlights a core element of this issue and the comic overall: Eddie using his rad Satan Ninja powers to fight badass demons (and, of course, there's the ever-present elements of the '80s dressing and busty babes).

For any of you who just come to the forums looking for updates, I’ve written up a blog post detailing some of the stuff we’ve been up to during this too-long hiatus.

Congratulations on you and Jessica's engagement! Funny that it was through your Fallout mod, because if you remember, that was basically how I found this comic in December 2015. Cover art looks great, and I'm sure the rest of this issue will be great as well.
I listen to 80's music for a living, how about you?

Thanks, Australian Dude! I was just thinking about you since Microwave Dude posted a video featuring the avian-haired guy in your avatar. One thing I forgot to mention about my Fallout 2 proposal is that the RP's coder and I had put that proposal into her copy of the game over three years ago. All this time it was lurking on her computer, waiting for her to finally play the game and discover my secret. Of course, Jessica's always too busy doing art to have much time for video games, but as our ten-year anniversary came and went, I could tell she was starting to wonder if I'd ever propose. So as soon as our hiatus started and she took a week off from art, I pressured her into spending that week finally playing Fallout 2.

Thanks, Mumm-Rad!

But just to clarify, we're almost back from the hiatus. There's still a few more weeks to go before we're really back.

Holy shit, sorry for the extended period of silence. Jessica has been posting updates to her Patreon, but I totally should've been posting occasional updates here as well, because people have begun asking us if the comic is dead.

So for the record: Satan Ninja 198X is totally not dead.

That's because Satan Ninja was eventually transferred to a better hospital.

So what have we been up to these past several months?

Well, for one thing, Jessica and I got engaged, and we’re getting married this August.

I've already sent my congratulations on the Patreon page back in March, but I'll do here as well: Congratulations!  Also I'm wondering if it's going to be a White Wedding?  P.S. I had no idea that the song at two parts to it until recently.

We’re technically still on hiatus, but we wanted to post the cover to Issue 4 so you dudes could see that the comic’s still alive and kicking ass.

I guess you could say that the comic's Alive and Kicking?

Lastly just a few random thoughts on the cover:

It looks like An American Werewolf-In Hell!  Also, it looks like Hell used the same floor pattern as Tron:

"My mind is aglow with whirling transient nodes of thought  careening through a cosmic vapour of invention."-Hedley Lamarr (Blazing Saddles)

Things are going pretty well. Today in particular, as I was just offered a thousand bucks for the rights to use a bit of voice acting I did for a video game mod nearly a decade ago (I'm getting paid since the mod is now going to be an official retail product). So that was unexpected and super awesome.

Heh, I'd forgotten about that joke until I watched the clip. I remember that episode being such a huge deal when it first aired.

Also I'm wondering if it's going to be a White Wedding?  P.S. I had no idea that the song at two parts to it until recently.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to overlook, since "part 2" was only available on singles and it's basically just a sort of remix of the original with alternate vocal takes and a few different lyrics.

Jessica's mom is helping us to deal with all this wedding stuff, and one of the first things she did when we began planning it is bring up Billy Idol's White Wedding video on YouTube for inspiration.

I guess you could say that the comic's Alive and Kicking?

You know, I've heard that song before, but I didn't realize Simple Minds did it. In fact, I don't think I was aware of any Simple Minds song beyond "Don't You (Forget About Me)." Fun fact: the dude who wrote that song originally offered it to Billy Idol, but Idol passed on it, so it ended up going to Simple Minds, becoming their first (and only) number one hit in the US. About twenty years later, Idol ended up recording a version of it to include on one of his greatest hits albums.

Whoa, that does look a lot like the Tron screencap. Total coincidence, but a rad one, for sure.

Looks like many folks were just concerned that you both dropped off the radar...

Nice to know you're still out there. Looking forward to the next chapter of the comic. :)

Good to see you, Crimson Dude! Yeah, we totally shouldn't have been silent for so long—that was dumb of me.

Speaking of site updates, I had planned to post our latest Radicast episode over this past weekend. I got it all edited, but then I realized that Jessica hadn't drawn a thumbnail image for it, and she was out of town. She's back now, but she's been so eager to to work on Issue 4 that I haven't been able to pull her away from that long enough to do a thumbnail. I'll see if I can get her to whip one up tonight so I can post the episode tomorrow.
